Interview

Last week, on a Tuesday, Nikki had to pick something up in Amsterdam. She actually wanted to go outside and shoot around, while I didn’t really felt like it. On monday, Gina was over for her first intern day so on Tuesday I didn’t want to go crazy and plan my day extremely full so we would just chill and see how the day goes.

Nikki thought it would be a good idea to highlight the kicks that has more meaning than others. So after whooping Nikki’s ass with Mario Kart we decided to re-organize the house with the sneakers I took with me to Amsterdam. I lived in Sydney for a bit and since I always thought I was going back, I just left them there.. I actually don’t know which ones I left there to be honest.. Well, they say when you don’t miss it, you don’t need it. I have a lot of sneakers I just don’t wear. Some I got for free and they are just here just to be here..

“Hey! Can you tell me?”

Where does your love for sneakers come from? And when did it start?
To be fair, I’ve always loved sneakers over regular shoes, heels or boots. I get dizzy on high heels (not really, they just hurt). Sneakers is sportswear and sportswear is made to be comfortable. There’s a lot more variation on a sneaker. Details will make it better. It started pretty early for me but not necessarily exclusive kicks. I had no idea “exclusive” was a thing. I just wanted Nike Air Max but my mom never got it for me. A funny story is this. I was about 8/9 and I had to get a vaccination. My oldest cousin had the sickest AM’s and my mom told me: “If you’re a good girl and you get your vaccinations right, you’ll get AM’s”. Okay cool. Went to the doctor. Saw the needles..
AND KICKED THE DOCTER IN HIS FACE.
Did I get my AM’s? No.
Did I get my vaccinations? Also no.
Do I have health issues now? Yes, yes I do.

When did you buy your first real sneaker and what was it?
It was the Nike Air Max One Wmns Sports Blue. I was 17 and bought them at Patta in Amsterdam. It was actually the first time I went to Amsterdam. I don’t have much to say about it really. They are just amazing. Simply amazing.

What is so far still your Ultimate grail?
Honestly, I regret I sold them. The Air Max One Morning Glory. I think black and pink is definitely all me. The materials are just amazing and the fit is perfect. If I ever see them again for sale and not beaten up, I will buy them for sure. I needed money for my trip to LA and I had to pay my bills. I was 24, I only worked in a sushi restaurant, I sold some canvases but yeh that didn’t help much so yeh, sadly..

What’s your latest cop?
The Nike Vandal 2k Beige. What a sneaker man. I’m 158cm and I could use a bit of height. Since I’m not wearing heels (girls, please know that heels are actually not good for you feet and you know that at the end of the night, you take them off and walk on bare feet over the dirty pavement) this is a life saver! I still feel classy and elegant with them. Maybe it’s the colour but definitely the material makes it such a banger.

Have you ever camped out for a sneaker?
Yes. I did a couple of times but I think the longest was the wait for the Nike Sockdart Fragments. I just know I won’t do it again and because of that I will also never sell them. I love sock darts a lot, I used to wear them every day but if you have a lot of kicks, you want to wear all of them (well I would).

Which Nike Air Max 1 should be re-released?
None. I rather have a version of something from the past and not exactly the same. Like what they did with the Animals. We all know the OG is so much better but the exclusivity stays.

What’s the top 3 of kicks you own?
1. Nike Vapor Maxx Off white – Black
2. Prada Cloudbust
3. Puma x Careaux BOG
